Electronic Fuel Injection
In the late 1970’s to early 1980’s, automotive manufacturers began phasing out carbureted engines in favour of new electronic engine management. Their goal was to increase performance while reducing fuel consumption and polluting emissions. Today, every new production vehicles relies on EFI to provide smooth and efficient engine control.
Sometimes you'll hear the terms ECM, ECU, PCM, or VCM. These all are all different terms used to refer to the engine's computer. We'll use the term ECM (Electronic Control Module) throughout this website for the sake of simplicity.
